Workflows.sh Brand Design

Workflows.sh is a sub-brand of CTO.ai intended to establish a brand that resonates with open-source workflow communities across diverse cloud platforms and IaC (Infrastructure as Code) frameworks.

As the primary designer for both the logo, visual identity, and website, I was responsible from ideation to execution, with feedback loops involving the CTO.ai team.

Objective

The Workflows.sh project’s goal was to cultivate a community-driven ethos that nurtures a collaborative environment through a dedicated website and brand. The intent was to highlight examples of open-source workflows used with various cloud providers and IaC frameworks and encourage collaborative adoption and contribution to enhance these workflows.

Ideation

Through initial conversations with the project’s primary stakeholders, the objectives and scope of the project were recognized (see Objective). From this point, the next step would be to start establishing the brand’s values to begin visually ideating.

Initial Concepts

With these keywords, I worked through the different stages of logo ideation and then developed those concepts into higher-fidelity sketches.

Results
Logo Forms

The movement taking place within the icon indicates an opening box or package, highlighting the “openness” and “collaboration” feeling we want to inspire in users. The form itself is not a closed loop, but rather an inviting shape.

Colors

The primary color is derived from the concept of open collaboration and fostering imagination. When we break down into the monochromatic versions, the inside area is outlined rather than filled. This also provides a form of optical illusion of building blocks within the box.

Typography

The wordmark aspect is derived directly from the CTO.ai brand. With workflows in the Qanelas font (similar to CTO) and the .sh in Bariol (similar to .ai)

Website

Following the brand’s design, I designed its accompanying webpage. You may view the website here: https://workflows.sh/
